Nebraska Optometric Association Honors
Heartland Eye Consultants Doctors for Serving Our Profession

At the recent Nebraska Optometric Association Fall Convention in Kearney, Dr. Will Ferguson, Dr. Holly Ternus, and Dr. Marie Bolin were all recognized for their service to the profession.

Dr. Will Ferguson was presented the Dr. Charles Seeger “Young OD of the Year” by Dr. Vicky Vandervort on behalf of the NOA at the Fall Conference last month.  This award recognizes leadership skills and contributions to the profession by an optometrist licensed 10 years or less. Dr. Will is on the Board of Directors of the NOA as well as the Board for the Nebraska Foundation for Children’s Vision. He also chairs the NOA project team addressing children’s vision policy enhancements. Dr. Will is a past graduate of the NOA Leadership Institute, and is an active state legislative keyperson and PAC contributor. He is a member of COVD and NORA, and has been a regular lecturer for paraoptometric education at the NOA Convention. Dr. Will has donated his time and services for multiple in-service presentations and vision screening for businesses, organizations, and educational institutions throughout the Omaha Metro Area. His dedication to the profession and to his patients at Heartland Eye Consultants continues to be an inspiration to us all.

In addition, Dr. Holly Ternus was honored at the convention with a special Presidential Citation for her work as chair the NOA’s Scope of Practice Committee. She has helped coordinate and lead the effort for our recent legislative efforts and volunteered to testify in place of Dr. Amy Devries if Dr. Devries was unable to get to Lincoln for the hearing due to flooding around Fremont. Dr. Devries made it, but Dr. Ternus’ willingness to cover, in a tense and needed situation with little chance to prepare for the testimony, was very much appreciated by  all in the NOA.

Also, Dr. Marie Bolin was recognized for graduating from the Nebraska Optometric Association’s Leadership Institute. This program prepares optometrists to serve our profession in a variety of leadership roles. Dr. Will Ferguson and Dr. Holly Ternus are past graduates of the  Leadership Institute as well. We congratulate Dr. Bolin on this accomplishment and look forward to her future contributions.
